WILLINGEN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
Willingen, long viewed as a health resort, thanks to its curative climate, is a rewarding holiday destination for any season. In this delightful village, there are arguably more leisure possibilities than vacation days in a year.
No matter what the weather brings, there is always something fun and enjoyable to experience.
You could visit Mühlenkopfschanze, the world’s largest ski-jumping hill, or the Ettelsberg tower, from where a breathtaking view across the mountains of northwestern Germany is possible on a clear day.
The Lagoon Waterpark, Ice Rink, mountain biking routes (downhill, freeride and signposted trails), fun golf, the Christine exhibition mine, a summer toboggan run and many more unique experiences are right on your doorstep.
Willingen is ideal for ski holidays, with 14 drag-lifts and the modern new cabin-lift at Mount Ettelsberg, as well as more than 10 kilometres of ski slopes, of which 6 kilometres are artificially kept under snow and partially lit up.
The annual FIS Ski Jumping World Cup attracts thousands of visitors to Willingen every winter.
Willingen is also popular for its apres-ski activities, and the many excellent restaurants catering for an array of tastes will not disappoint. Linger longer over your choice of the finest Italian, Chinese, Greek, South American and Bavarian fare Willingen has to offer.
You can also dine at the highly recommended and more informal and festive taverns and bars such as Brauhaus, Vis a Vis and Dorfalm. With all this on offer, there is no time for boredom in Willingen.
In summer, weekends are characterised by traditional festivities such as shooting matches, health and herb markets, fire-fighter water games, glee club singing festivals, horse shows, and major events such as concerts, open-air expos, bike festivals and the Willingen Panoramic Course – which are all open for participants or supporters from the sidelines.
Feel free to join in the enthusiasm that Willingen and its events and attractions invoke.
